Routes

Here on the UCSB Triathlon Team, we ride bicycles. A lot. To make our lives easier while riding said bicycles, here are some routes that we frequently ride, created by our very own Coach Matt ex-Kendra’s Race Co-Directors, Ryan and Derrick.

In addition, here is a link to map of the water refill spots in the area, for longer rides when one or two bottles might not be enough.

  • Obern Bike Trail

Flat bike trail with no cars.

    Cat Oaks / Los Carneros

Moderately trafficked short route on roads with a solid bike lane throughout.

    Additional route: Airport Loop

  • Hope Ranch

Best 20 mile loop in the area, solid ocean views, minimal traffic, and some rolling hills.

    Farren

Cute little climb with nice ocean views and solid bike lanes throughout the moderately trafficked parts of route.

    Additional Routes: Derrick Loop, Trident

  • OSM

Classic workout climb and some traffic on the climb.

    East Mountain

Very nice hilly loop in the foothills with nice views.

Additional Routes: Vereda Workout, Lucky Llama, Sycamore Loop

  • Reverse Ridge

Really nice climbing ride with beautiful views of the Santa Barbara area and the ocean. There is a water refill station at the corner of Manzanita Rd and Painted Cave Rd. Pavement is rough from 154 to La Cumbre Peak. Can go the other direction for a classic Ridge ride and famous Gibraltar Rd Climb, but the descent on the bad pavement and down Painted Cave can be very technical and bumpy.

    Goob

A classic rolling hills loop along the coast. "Goob" refers to the short climb on Gobernador Canyon Rd. There is a water refill at junction of Gobernador Canyon Rd and 192.

    Full Mountain

Hilly loop with some steep pitches on Mountain Rd, in the foothills in Montecito. Some really solid views and water refill on Mountain Rd, just past Coyote Rd.

    Lake Loop

Classic century route from UCSB, relatively flat except for Casitas Pass which is a steady double pumping climb. Water by Goob climb and right after Bates climb.

Additional Routes: Paradise, Ventura Out-and-Back, Fig Mtn, Gib + ECC, Refugio, DK Loop

  • Check any of the Strava routes Derrick or Ryan have made, please ask them about it if you want any more info or other routes, they love to talk about routing.

(disclaimer: this is not an endorsement of safety of any of these routes)

examples: Jalama Beach, Hwy 33, RC Loop, East/West/Full Ridge

  • Just go to Hope Ranch and there's so many different ways to path through

ex. erm wts, hope ranchury, monte-estrella-cuervo loop
